Did you know the fact that it is possible to generate clean electricity from domestic and agricultural waste materials? find_sm No..? Then ask the Scientists in University of East Anglia (UAE) how they do it..

Sure, We’ll ask them.. but, what is clean electricity???

Oh.. sorry we forgot to mention that. We will, at a later time, bring you a whole series of articles about clean electricity. But until then, just read the below, quoted, definition.. we have found this on www.masstech.org

Clean energy (also called “green power” or “green electricity”) refers to electricity produced in ways that are considered to have fewer harmful environmental impacts than burning fossil fuels or running nuclear facilities. Although the definition of clean energy can vary, the term is generally applied to electricity from renewable energy sources:

* The sun

* Wind

* Small low-impact waterpower

* Bioenergy (wood and other organic matter including landfill gas)

* Geothermal (the Earth’s heat)

* Waves

* Tides

OK..? Now, Back to our story

doit_sm According to the original article we have come across, these scientists had discovered a remarkable fact about a process that some forms of bacteria are carrying out in order to generate energy when there is no oxygen. This process is called rock breaking where they survive by breaking up minerals (….specially iron) in oxygen-free environments (like sub-surface of the earth).

therefore…

They are mentioning that this type of behavior can be used for making microbial ‘bio-batteries’ that are powered by animal or human waste materials.

Great stuff, but  now I don’t know what a bio-battery is.. Can you give me a definition?

Sure..The simplest definition would be, bio-batterie are the ones that are powered by organic compounds. understood?

Anyway, Look what they are telling (read below..)

Prof Richardson said: “We discovered that the bacteria can construct tiny biological wires that extend through the cell walls and allow the organism to directly contact, and conduct electrons to, a mineral. This means that the bacteria can release electrical charge from inside the cell into the mineral, much like the earth wire on a household plug.”
