Building The World’s LARGEST Wind Farm: [USA vs UK]
Amidst a lot of healthy competition these days for the title of the World’s tallest, longest, widest, biggest etc. etc. etc., it appears that the United States will continue to lay claim to the World’s largest wind farm for some time to come!
How BIG?
Spread out across 30 square miles of terrain just south of the Columbia River in north-central Oregon, with an 845 MW capacity, generating about 2 billion kilowatt-hours per year, enough power for 235,000 homes!
Not a bad way to make use of a renewable energy resource like wind surely?
Tell me more…
The 2 billion dollar project will generate about 400 jobs during construction, and 35 to run the farm.
What’s the catch?
The English are planning a 1,000 MW off-shore farm, challenging the US to the title of the largest wind farm. However only 630 MW of that 1,000 MW project will be built initially, enabling the US to breathe a sigh of relief at least for the time being…
