Former World’s Tallest Building to Go Green
Taiwan’s ‘Taipei 101’ was the tallest building in the world from 2004-2007. Now, it is hoping to become the world’s tallest green building!
Taipei 101?
It’s a 101-story skyscraper owned by Taipei Financial Center Corp (TFC).
The makeover…
Will occur over an 18 month period and is mainly for heating, cooling and ventilation system upgrades and will cost $ 1.9 million.
The changes include,
- Usage of rainwater to flush toilets
- Conventional light bulbs and tubes replaced by energy-efficient ones
- Increased use of locally produced foods in the building’s restaurants
The return?
Total financial savings from the green changes are expected to be $600,000 a year (10% of its current annual electricity costs), which means TFC will get a return on its investments in about three years.

This goes on to show that being green can be both environmentally and financially sound, a perfect balance for any successful business venture…
