‘Light Power’ to Charge Your Mobile Phone

Not electricity. Not solar power. But light! Room light, sunlight or any form of light!

That’s right! This one’s got revolutionary written all over it.

By whom?

A little known, California based, 5-year old company called SunCore has come up with a technology that can have significant ramifications in the near future…

Tell me more…

This is a patent-pending technology where light is absorbed along with a high-rate charge transfer that makes it possible to charge a cell phone with ‘light’ power. This system gets power from a broad range in the spectrum – from Infrared to Ultraviolet – making it efficient enough to charge the phone while it is simply lying on a table in a room.

What’s the catch?

Although it’s not a big one, the company requests a simple behavioral change on the part of its customers in order to use this new technology…when they place the phone down on a table, put it down with the back side up…

The benefits?

Are wide-ranging!

  1. The technology has the potential to unclutter your life with one less cable to worry about
  2. It also has the potential to allow more powerful applications to run on your mobile since the phone can be exposed to an almost constant source of power
  3. Beneficial to people in poorer communities that do not have access to electricity
  4. And last but not least… any technology that shies away from electricity and solely relies on natural light is fully endorsed by all of us here in the Environment Team!
