Pedal Powered New XO Laptop Prototype from OLPC
Nearly two billion children in the developing world have little or no access to education. And many countries have insufficient resources to devote to education. One recent green innovation however might bring technology to the doorstep of many disadvantaged children around the world.
Who?
One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) is a non-profit organization that is driven by the mission to help children in developing countries learn by providing one laptop to every school-age child!
How?
By giving children their own connected XO laptop!
The new XO laptop prototype…
Is an extremely durable machine designed and built especially for children in developing countries many of whom live in remote areas and do not have a ready supply of electricity. The computer is about the size of a small text book and has built-in wireless and a unique screen that is readable under direct sunlight.
So what’s special about this computer?
It’s human powered as it functions by the pedaling motions of the user! Children are able to create enough power by pedaling to run the laptop. According to OLPC even small kids (3/4th grade) can power it.
Therefore neither electricity nor any batteries are required to power this fantastic device!
