Rinspeed UC Concept Car- An Electric Vehicle with NO Steering Wheel
From the outside it looks like a regular car chopped in half! One look at the name of the carmaker, and you probably wouldn’t be surprised if that’s indeed what it was! This however, is a whole new frontier even for Rinspeed, the custom carmaker with a history of designing concept cars with truly bizarre looks!
With a name like Urban Commuter (UC), you know there’s something not quite ordinary about this new concept car, although the performance stats aren’t anything to write home about.
Performance stats of UC…
- Top speed – 75 mph
- Range – 65 miles
- Torque – 96 pound-feet

So what really is special about the UC?

Well… first and foremost… it’s an electric car! Yup… you guessed it. That’s why we at EnvironmentTeam.com are bothering with this after all! It’s a custom built two seat electric car. But the features do not end there.
The steering wheel has been replaced by a joystick! Not just any joystick… a force-feedback joystick! What this means is that this joystick is connected to a special force feedback system. As a result the car delivers feedback to the joystick and provides a better steering feel and clear feedback from the road.
Anything else?
If you own an EV (Electric Vehicle) or have driven one before you know that a common problem with them is cold weather heating. This little two-seater however has a solution to that as well. The car has an innovative high-voltage, high-efficiency heating system that can jack up the temperature inside the car to 60 degrees Celsius (140 degrees Fahrenheit) in just 30 seconds! That by the way is a lot better than any internal combustion powered car available right now.
However we have reserved the best for last!
The UC has been designed with a much bigger idea in mind. The reason why this car has this funky design is so that it could easily be loaded on a special rail transport car for long trips! So the next time you’re going someplace in the train and you wanted your car to accompany you, the UC would probably do the trick unlike most other regular cars…
