Lotus Evora 414E Hybrid – For Sports Car Enthusiasts
A hybrid vehicle is one that can use more than one source of power to move the vehicle. The term most commonly refers to hybrid electric vehicles (HEV) which can employ the services of an internal combustion engine as well as an electric motor.
The hybrid technology is catching on and with cars like the Toyota Prius and the Chevy Volt, the market for these concept cars is also rapidly expanding. And with inventions like the Tesla Roadster it seems that the hybrid concept is out to capture the sports car enthusiasts’ attention too.
The new addition to the market from Lotus…
Is the Lotus Evora 414E Hybrid.
It’s clearly designed with fans of sports cars in mind. It looks supremely impressive from the outside. And there are quite a few innovations to hold one’s attention from the inside too!
The list of features worthy of mention is as follows…
- It is plug-in capable. Thus it has Lithium polymer battery that can be charged overnight
- There is a range extender internal combustion engine. The car can travel 35 miles on a full charge. And then range extender engine kicks in and this jacks up the cars full hybrid range to over 300 miles!
half of the hybrid system is made up of the a 1.2 liter, three-cylinder engine designed specifically for series hybrid vehicles which will also feature in Proton’s hybrid offering at Geneva. – Gizmag

- Each rear wheel is powered by a 152-kilowatt electric motor.
- These electric motors can create 295 pound-feet of torque enabling the car to go from zero to 60 mph in less than 4 seconds.
- A unique virtual seven-speed transmission that functions through paddle shifters. Downshifting in this car gives the driver the simulated feeling of downshifting with gears. To facilitate that experience even more there is a unique audio technology used in the car that simulates engine noise and modulates that noise according to the motor speed and the virtual downshifts!
- The 1.2-liter three-cylinder range extender engine uses a monoblock design and this results in a lowering of the manufacturing costs.
