Toy Car that Runs on Power Generated from Sugary Solutions
A couple of months ago we told you about the ‘coke phone’, a modified mobile phone that could run on any sugary solution including Coca-Cola! Although we have not seen any commercial product employing that revolutionary concept yet, it seems like the idea is here to stay. Now a toy car has been designed that could run on the energy generated from sugary solutions.
The Remote Control (RC) car…
Is named ‘ene Cargo’ and has been developed by Sony and Takara Tomy, a Japanese toy, children’s merchandise and entertainment company. ‘ene’ here stands for entertainment new energy.
Sony’s bio-battery…
That was used in the ‘coke phone’ mentioned above is employed here as well. This battery can generate power from the carbohydrate in sugary solutions like Coca-Cola, Sprite, 7 UP etc. Grape juice is apparently most efficient at producing energy in this manner. The process of energy production here is quite similar to what happens in our bodies. That is the battery generates power by breaking down carbohydrate (glucose) through the action of enzymes.
As a demonstration…
At the TOY FORUM 2010, a propeller was powered by this bio battery. The propeller ran for almost an hour using the power produced from just 3ml of Coca-Cola.
Sony has been working on this bio-battery for awhile now and it’s evidenced by the battery’s improved performance. Within 18 months Sony has been able to double its power-generation-per-volume!
