Tower Skin: The New Eco-friendly and Sustainable Building Concept
Tearing down old buildings to build new ones from scratch in order to introduce eco-friendly concepts may not be necessary anymore. An Australian Architectural firm called LAVA (Laboratory for Visionary Architecture) has developed an idea that would provide a facelift to old structures with minimal intervention. What’s even better is that the new concept is designed to introduce several eco-friendly additions at the same time as well.
Tower Skin…
Is what this new concept is called an in essence it is a transparent covering as you can see in the image that not only improves the appearance of buildings aesthetically but also introduces several environmentally friendly principles.
These eco-friendly principles include…
- Incorporation of solar cells to collect solar energy and generate power
- Collection of rain water
- Supply of natural air flow
- Improve the natural light inside buildings during day time
All this is aimed at providing a high-level functioning micro climate to the people inside the building.
What is Tower Skin?
It is a networked 3-D composite mesh textile that is also quite lightweight. It is flexible enough to be pulled around the contours of a building and that makes it possible to be applied to existing buildings.
The first beneficiary…
Of this revolutionary technology is said to be the University of Technology (UTS) Broadway Tower in Sydney, Australia.
The main focus of the Tower Skin is sustainability. Hence the idea is to bring about a complete transformation in the identity, sustainability and interior comfort of both old and new buildings while being both visually pleasing and eco-conscious at the same time!
