All-electric Concept Car that Interacts with Nokia Smartphones
Keeping track of all the changes that take place in the automotive industry today is fast becoming a challenging task. Automobile manufacturers have been pitted against each other in a frantic battle to design the next concept car that takes the world by storm. The result has been nothing short of exhilarating.
We have already brought to you some interesting snippets from the world of next-generation concept cars that promote the ideas of energy efficiency and green technology. What we wish to tell you now is about a new urban electric vehicle that is by the admission of the developers themselves, “a car for driving and not just for showing!”
The car?
The ‘Eva’ concept by Valmet Automotive.
Valmet Automotive…
Is a service provider for the automotive industry based in Finland. Therefore, the design of an innovative new concept car marks a significantly different approach in the company’s usual business strategy.
What’s special about this car?
A number of things in fact!
- First and foremost it is an all-electric vehicle. The drivetrain (the system in a vehicle that transmits the engine’s power to the wheels and the propeller to move the vehicle) is a high-efficiency, axial flux induction, direct drive motor.
- A maximum speed of 120 km/h (75 miles per hour).
- A range of 100 miles (160 km) which is quite impressive compared to the range of less than 50 miles obtained from the electric motor on most hybrid electric vehicles.
- This ‘Eva’ concept is a 2+2 seater, meaning it has two passenger seats in the front and two smaller seats in the rear compared to the three rear seats in conventional cars.
- NAVTEQ-supplied navigation system that takes the terrain into account to suggest the most efficient route to the driver
- Built on an aluminum space frame that can be adapted to different types of vehicles.
In addition to all that…
The ‘Eva’ concept enables considerable interaction between the car’s infotainment system and the smartphone technology on Nokia mobile phones. This technology would enable the car to access all the smartphone features, services and applications on a Nokia mobile phone.
Similarly the smartphone would have access to performance and other data from the car as well. For e.g. the car has a charger unit that could be activated via a text message!
