Green Building Blends in with Nature!
Embracing nature and what it offers us is part of having a green conscience. A residential building in Singapore attempts to do this by blending in with its surroundings through a unique green façade.
The design concept…
For the building represents a volumetric reduction of a 9-by-9 cube. The façade painted in green and the sculptured garden blend in nicely with the surroundings which include a lush park opposite the building.
This three-story building…
Is unique in that in addition to the ‘green’ appearance it also accommodates energy-saving approaches to fully qualify as a ‘Green Home.’
A passive design strategy is used to reduce maintenance costs and improve heat distribution inside the building. Living rooms and bedrooms are located towards the front and rear of this north-south facing building and bathrooms and service zones are east-west facing. This creates a heat-buffer zone for the living room area. This design also allows effective cross ventilation.
The third storey is reduced in size as you can see in the image to accommodate the crowded dwelling units in the neighborhood.
Finally, perhaps to convince the residents that this is indeed a ‘Green Home,’ the bedrooms and living rooms are given an unrestricted view of the lush greenery surrounding the building.
