There really is no limit to human ingenuity. And what’s even more striking is how most of it often originates from a general lack of access to life’s basic amenities that developed countries usually take for granted.

Take for example the human powered washing machine developed by industrial designer Mitch Shivers from Philippines. Take one look at it and you could probably guess exactly how it functions. And chances are you would be absolutely correct. It’s simple enough, but it also gets the job done. While doing its bit for the environment.

The construction?

What you see attached to the bicycle is the ‘built-in washing system.’ In other words, a thirty gallon steel drum that doubles up as a ‘mobile’ washing machine.

And all you need to do is…

Stick your dirty clothes in the steel drum and take a ride downtown on the bicycle to get the groceries or for a healthy dose of workout. Oh…and return with clean clothes.

Craftily economical and environmentally-friendly as well.
