Asthmatics and those who suffer from allergies will be quick to point out just how dirty the air around us often is. From dust to pollen to mold spores and volatile organic compounds the air around us can be rife with particulate matter that can deleteriously affect our health. This is where air purifiers come in to play. They remove these contaminants from the air and keep us from engaging in that arduous task of frequent room cleaning.

However one complaint that has remained with those who use these air purifiers is the inability of the apparatus to indicate when the air is polluted or not. Sharper Image, manufacturers of common consumer products, may have come up with the answer with their latest ‘sensing air purifier.’

As the name suggests…

This one can sense when the air quality is bad or not. A pollution sensor lamp glows in different colors according to the surrounding air quality.

  • Red - highly polluted air
  • Dark purple – moderate pollution
  • Light purple – low pollution
  • Blue - clean air

As far as functionality is concerned…

The machine comes with a 3-stage Hepa filter that guarantees a 99.5% removal of air borne particles within an area of up to 240 square feet.

Hopefully there is a scientific basis behind the color indication, since $279.99 sounds like a considerable amount to shell out for any run-of-the-mill air purifier.
