Samsung BE – Energy Monitoring Device Facilitates Social Networking

Samung BE (spelled “Bee”) is a portable electronic device that helps you improve your sustainable behaviors. Powered by both solar and wind power, BE is capable of recharging your electronics as well as monitoring energy consumption. For instance, you can integrate it with your car’s dashboard and let it monitor the footprint. The surface of the device is covered with a later of solar panels, and sports a dynamo hinge where you can attach a scaled-down wind turbine. In case there’s no sunlight or wind, all you have to do is insert your finger into the second hinge on the surface and whirl the base around (=kinetic energy into electricity).

In order to calculate your footprint while traveling, BE uses a particular software that computes a lot of variable, position, velocity, acceleration, duration of stops, type of road/rail,  to name a few. (Smart GPS feature) With these data, the device automatically figures out your means of transportation and then calculates the footprint.

In addition to the above functionalities, BE also comes with a feature that lets you socialize with your friends to share each other’s energy utilization data and to compare yours with your friends.

BE also comes with two another energy monitoring devices; Smart Plug and Smart Ring.

‘Smart Plug’ tracks the total energy consumption of the house. In addition, it can be used to track the consumption of your mobile devices too.

With ‘Smart Ring’ you can track your own consumption; for example, to evaluate how much water you use in a bath.
